Remember the invasion of the Light Brown Apple Moth? Starting in 2007, aerial spraying of pesticides was performed in various counties in California to combat the moth, but not without opposition from public health and environmental advocates. Hundreds of complaints of negative health impacts & threat of lawsuits brought the spraying to a halt.
The California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) is currently working to prepare a programmatic environmental impact report (PEIR) with the intent to create a process for dealing with future “invasive” pests.
